What do we mean by a photographic document? It is typically perceived to be a neutral, styleless, and objective record of information. How does it differ to photographic art? ‘Documents’ examines the business of creating photographs for documentary purposes and evaluates the objectivity of these sorts of records of events. A great deal of information about our world comes from such images. Lots of specialist professions use documentary photographs in their work. Common sense suggests that objectivity is self-evident in all forms of observation. Historical scrutiny suggest that it isnȧt so clear cut.
