p. 313. The Making of the Biblelocked

  • John Riches

Abstract

What exactly do we understand by the term Bible? ‘The Making of the Bible’ examines the different uses of the word Bible, and the different understandings of the Jewish Bible, the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Bible. The making of the Jewish Bible and its Greek translation, the Septuagint, and their importance to the Christian Old Testament are considered, as is the notion of canon — the idea of an authoritative body of texts. The development of the New Testament canon and the arguments over what is included in the Christian Bible is also examined.
