p. 846. The Bible in the Post-Colonial Worldlocked

  • John Riches

Abstract

The areas of greatest growth for Christianity today are in Africa and Asia. ‘The Bible in the Post-Colonial World‘ examines how the Bible is playing an important part in the growth of churches in countries that are emerging from colonial domination. It traces the role the Bible has played, first in Latin America and then in Africa. How have these different cultures embraced and interpreted the Bible in their own way? The rise of Liberation Theology, the challenge of Apartheid, and the post-independence reading of biblical texts in Africa, are each in turn examined and understood in their own contexts.
