The Imposterslocked

  • Steve Bruce

Abstract

It is a mistake to assume that sociology is in the business of helping people. Many of the founders to the discipline were motivated by altruism. However, sociology today should be distinguished from social reform. ‘The Imposters’ looks at various imposters in the sociology camp and attempts to summarize the discipline of sociology. What is the difference between social and sociological problems? In asserting that sociology must be a social science, we must bear in mind the advantages and disadvantages that come from the discipline's odd subject matter: ourselves. Common sense provides the best warrant for the possibility of social science.
