Some more high spots
A personal selection
- Edward Craig
Abstract
A selection of the best of philosophical thinking is always going to be personal. ‘Some more high points’ presents a list of favourite moments in philosophical thinking: Descartes' Discourse on the Method, Hegel's Introduction to the Philosophy of History, Darwin's The Origin of Species, and Nietzsche's The Genealogy of Morals. The Discourse is a rich and memorable work in which an eminent founder of modern thought grapples with himself, Aristotelianism, scepticism, academic relation, public and ecclesiastical opinion, physics, cosmology, and physiology. Could Darwinism be said to have subverted an entire philosophy? What did Nietzsche have to say about human suffering?
