p. 1057. School's out!locked

  • Gary Thomas

Abstract

Why do we have such a mismatch between the notion of inclusiveness, achievement, and happiness promulgated by educators and the gloom and doom that school habitually invites in the educated? ‘School's out!’ looks at how successful education is if the aim is to enhance economic growth, and what the costs of this are for those being educated. What will the future bring? Should the age at which children begin education be lowered even further, or raised? The words ‘education’ and ‘schooling’ are sometimes used interchangeably. But education is not the same as schooling.
