Abstract
‘The postmodern condition’ concludes this study of postmodernism. The ‘postmodern condition’ is one in which the global condition of societies is seen, not as determined by traditional economic or political frameworks, but as a state of culture. This reliance upon a cultural analysis is one of the most distinctive contributions of postmodernism to contemporary society. The postmodernist attack on authority and reliability, postmodernism's scepticism, and impact of mass media are described along with Jean Baudrillard's Simulations, in which he asserted the essential unreality of the culture in which we live. Finally, the alternative intellectual traditions outside postmodernism are discussed.
