p. 436. How to Analyse a Modern Society
- Kenneth Minogue
‘How to Analyse a Modern State’ considers the relationships between politics, the state, society, and the economy along with the views of Hobbes, Hegel, and Marx. The new sovereign state could be seen as an assemblage of equal subjects under a sovereign as well as a complex, highly articulated body. The essence of modernity lay in the development of the new sentiment of individuality and the growth of European commerce revealed that human beings also played roles as producers, distributors, and consumers of commodities participating in another distinct associative relationship: the political economy.
