p. 714. Rastafari international: the making of a global movementlocked

  • Ennis B. Edmonds

The Rastafari movement has spread throughout the Caribbean, to Caribbean immigrant communities in Europe and North America, to African diasporic people and Africans on the continents, and to people of disparate ethnicities in the Americans, Europe, and Asia. Rastafarian Jamaicans have also migrated to North America, Europe, and Africa, spreading the message of Rastafari through reggae music, and the travelling missions of ‘trodding’ Rastafarian elders to inculcate Rastafarian principles and practices outside Jamaica. How did this happen? What caused so many Jamaicans to migrate? As a consequence the Ratafari has become truly an international movement.
