p. 11. Introductionlocked

    Abstract

The New Testament has been through 2,000 years of interpretation. Millions of people across the world have felt the influence of it. Christians read the New Testament religiously assuming that their reading will provide guidance for their beliefs and actions. Followers of other religions read for cross-cultural religious understanding. Non-religious or antireligious people read it too, perhaps to point out fallacies or shortcomings. The Introduction explains how this VSI aims to examine the New Testament, as a literary study. Taking a purely religious interpretation of the New Testament might overlook the aesthetic experience of the reader.
