The ‘Conclusion’ looks to the future of historical investigation of the Soviet Union. A more sustained engagement with later Soviet civilization is needed. Changes in the Soviet order apart from the revolution also need further consideration, as does the wrenching impact of the Great Patriotic War. With the demise of the Soviet Union, real internationalism is possible, and new lines of inquiry have been opened.
