Abstract
The issue of ethics is vital for the fashion industry. Ethical questions relating to how fashion is produced have gained in significance since the late 19th century. The ways in which fashion could be used to change someone's appearance drove earlier commentaries. Moral concerns centred on the way that fashion can play tricks on perceptions of beauty or status, and confuse social codes and acceptable ways to dress and behave. Moral issues also relate to the way ethnic minority groups are presented and treated in relation to dress and appearance.
