p. 604. Spirituality as a way of lifelocked

  • Philip Sheldrake

Abstract

Religious and secular spiritualties both focus on more than simply inner experience. They seek to relate spiritual practices to the transformation of everyday existence. ‘Spirituality as a way of life’ explores how to live a spiritual life. Over the last half a century, the idea of a spiritual life has adopted a humanist flavour. How is spirituality related to life development? All approaches to spirituality as a way of life include some understanding of human development in childhood, adulthood, and education. Alongside this is the need for transformation from ‘inauthentic’ to ’authentic’. Spirituality is closely related to ethics and how to live a virtuous life.
