p. 785. Spirituality in societylocked

  • Philip Sheldrake

Abstract

We often associate spirituality with an individual experience but this is inaccurate if we consider the spirituality of world religions.‘Spirituality in society’ seeks to redress this imbalance by discussing how the great religious spiritualties teach a socially aware outlook. It explores how the current understanding of spirituality beyond the confines of religion has moved from a concern of self-realization to one relating to social and public values, in areas such as health care, economics, urban thought, politics, and the Internet. How have changes in the 20th century impacted the notion of spirituality? By the end of the 20th century we had started to question the notion of truth and a meaningful life.
