  • Mark Maslin

Abstract

One of the main challenges of the current century is predicting climate change. The concern isn't just scientific, it is economic, sociological, geopolitical, national and local, and medical. ‘Future climate change’ explains why changes in the climate system will lead to unpredictable weather patterns and an increase in the number of extreme weather events such as heatwaves, storms, and droughts. Understanding future climate change is about understanding how science works and the principle of the ‘weight of evidence’. Discussions of future climate change evoke strong reactions. This is partly due to a fundamental misunderstanding of science by the media, the public, and politicians. What is a safe level of climate change?
