Abstract

The ‘Conclusion’ provides a summary of the key themes of the book. The first is about empowerment: it is suggested that you can improve your communication skills through attention to simple rhetorical techniques that have proved effective for thousands of years. Rhetoric, though, cannot simply be reduced to a checklist of time-honoured methods which together will turn you into a compelling orator. It is argued that rhetoric is a social phenomenon, and that its reception depends on the norms in operation in the society in which it is delivered, but it is also inherently unpredictable.
